Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, December 2019
This vineyard, like Les Longeroies, is in the north of the commune, on hard Comblanchien limestone. The style is a little more muscular with firmer dark fruit flavours. It combines a sense of structure with an attractive richness and volume. There are hints of mocha and cocoa on the finish.

Burghound, January 2020,
Score: 89-91There is a liqueur-like character to the red cherry, spice and softly earth-scented nose. The supple, round and relatively forward flavors possess both good density and sappy texture, all wrapped in a bright and mildly tangy finish that really firms up as it sits on the palate. This is good but it's not at the level of the best here. Drink 2026+

Jancis Robinson, January 2020,
Score: 17Mid crimson. A little less fragrant and more spicy than the Longeroies, real purity of dark-red fruit. A touch herbal but perfectly ripe. Firm and compact tannins already lithe and beautifully balanced. Great example of what Marsannay can produce. Moreish and long. GV (JH) Drink 2023 – 2030

Producer
Domaine Charles Audoin

Charles’s son Cyril has for years been instrumental in raising the quality and the reputation of the Marsannay appellation. With his new cellar now fully operational, he can realise the full potential of his excellent fruit grown in this underrated appellation. This domaine offers terrific consistency and excellent value for money in the northern Côte de Nuits.
Region
Marsannay
The most northerly appellation of the Cote d'Or, Marsannay is also the only appellation authorised to produce red, white and rose wine. Only created in 1987, this is an interesting area where quality is improving. Top producers include Bruno Clair, Meo-Camuzet and Denis Mortet.
