Goedhuis, December 2019
The family own four hectares of Gevrey Chambertin village scattered in 10 different locations, and this is a truly representative village cuvée. With vibrant dark cherry aromas, this has great depth, ripe broad tannins and hints of mocha. The 30% whole bunch fruit provides some complex alpine strawberry flavours as the lasting sensation. Delicious.

Neal Martin, January 2020,
Score: 89-91The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has much more clarity and Gevrey character than the version without SO2; this is much better. The palate is medium-bodied with fine acidity. Crisp and focused, displaying great clarity on the finish. Sorry, but judging them side by side, the judicious addition of SO2 renders the wine more articulate of its origin... and it is a wine that you actually want to drink. Superb. 2021 - 2030

Burghound, January 2020,
Score: 85-88This is carrying quite a bit of wood influence and in particular menthol that fights somewhat with the ripe red and dark raspberry aromas. Once again the mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is supple, round and relatively easy-going which contrasts somewhat with the slightly edgy and mildly drying finish. Drink 2023+

Jasper Morris MW, January 2020,
Score: 90Includes a 2ha block of Clos des Combes. Pretty, mid-purple, the nose currently shows a touch of oak but that will integrate without difficulty. Ripe dense fruit, with some darker notes but not overdone, with a good fine-grained tannic structure behind. With a touch of spice behind, this is complete and indeed classy.

Domaine Drouhin Laroze

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: Philippe Drouhin is ably assisted by son and daughter Nicolas and Caroline. First established in 1850, the domaine has major holdings in Gevrey Chambertin, as well as an impressive array of the Côte de Nuits’s grands crus, stretching from Gevrey down through Chambolle Musginy and into Vougeot. Recent investment at the domaine’s barrel hall will continue to drive quality at Drouhin Laroze. Their style falls somewhere between a modernist and a traditionalist. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.
Region
Gevrey-Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
