Goedhuis, December 2019
This vineyard’s name refers to the stony nature of its soils, which contributes to the wine’s bright, lively purity. Almost jubilant in style, with aromas of pomegranate and cranberry. This is vibrant, fresh and pure, with a fine line of tannins flowing through and sweet red fruit on the finish. Lovely.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Crapiots 1er Cru just misses the precision of the En Champs, coming across a little broody with a subtle briny influence. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and quite succulent/fleshy in texture. White pepper and a touch of bay leaf appear toward the finish. Maybe a little rough-hewn compared to their more propitious premier crus, but it should drink well for 12–15 years. 2022 - 2033

Burghound, January 2020, Score: 86-89
Once again there is enough wood to notice suffusing the aromas of violet, dark pinot fruit and discreet earth nuances. The medium-bodied flavors possess a somewhat finer mid-palate mouthfeel that is really quite seductive yet it also contrasts with the dry, short and raspy finish. Drink 2025+

Jasper Morris MW, January 2020, Score: 89-93
Dense crimson colour, with a touch of blackcurrant, this is fresher and less ripe than some samples. Caroline Drouhin notes that Craipillot can be light in cooler years, but is more suited to 2018 conditions. The fruit is predominantly raspberry with darker fruit behind, retaining freshness.

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less

Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
