Burghound, January 2020,
There is enough reduction present to mask the underlying fruit though discreet spice elements can be discerned. As one would expect, there is notably more size, weight and power to the broad-shouldered flavors that also display a somewhat dry and short finish. The supporting tannins seem ripe though at present they're fairly grippy. This too presents a question mark. Drink 2027+
Domaine Anne Gros
Anne Gros's quiet spoken nature is most certainly reflected in her wines. A visit to this small domaine in Vosne Romanée is always a highlight. Her wines are not big and powerful but totally focused on grace and finesse. The precise and elegant fruit characters of this stunning vintage have fallen into the hands of Anne. Although volumes are tiny, this is a beautiful selection of wines with extraordinary balance and therefore natural longevity.
One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Relatively large and consequently diverse for a Grand Cru, the better Echézeaux wines undoubtedly deserve this status. As always in Burgundy vineyard location and grower is critical.
