Producer
Domaine Ramonet

With vines in the most illustrious vineyards along the entire Cote, Domaine Ramonet produces exceptional wines of power, precision and verve. Behind the closed doors of an unassuming address in Chassagne Montrachet Jean Claude Ramonet, a third-generation winemaker, deftly weaves the character of each vintage into the style of the domaine; from Bourgogne Blanc to Batard Montrachet, the wines display an unmistakable signature. Like many Burgundy producers, the domaine has faced its share of challenges in recent vintages but the surehandedness borne of experience gathered over the passage of nearly ninety years since Pierre Ramonet cleared and planted his first Chassagne Montrachet Ruchottes vineyard, has ensured the wines invariably realise their potential. The result of such prowess is that the wines tend to disappear from the market soon after their release and finding older vintages of any description can be a lengthy process.
Region
Chassagne Montrachet
The white wines of Chassagne Montrachet can be difficult to distinguish from Puligny. At their most typical they are slightly fleshier and more hedonistic, but are often just as mineral and refined making the two almost inseparable. When distinguishable, they offer notes of honeysuckle, lime blossom and honey. Many have become quite approachable when young. It is larger than Puligny with vineyards totalling over 330 hectares. Though it shares both the grand cru vineyards of Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachet, it has sole ownership of the miniscule Criots Bâtard Montrachet. Similar to Puligny, Chassagne also grows Pinot Noir, which can be austere when young. A small amount of red Chassagne is also made.
