Goedhuis, December 2019
Situated in the heart of the appellation, Charmes is considered an exemplary Chambolle premier cru. A deeply coloured wine with intense black cherry and blackberry fruit aromas. This tasted sensational in the cellar with a lovely ample mouthfeel. The copious fruit content accommodates the rounded velvety tannins with ease. Extremely long which is fortunate because I wanted to savour it for as long as possible.

Neal Martin, January 2020, Score: 90-92
The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru has a pure, pretty bouquet of red cherries, crushed strawberry and orange blossom. The vibrant, fresh palate is elegant and airy, without massive structure or grip. The finish shows good delineation. I suspect this will be more for early drinking, but it is still utterly charming. Burghound, January 2020, Score: 90-93
An interesting nose combines both upper and lower register aromas that include pomegranate, plum, cassis and essence of raspberry where there is a top note of violet. The vibrant, sleek and refined medium weight flavors possess fine mid-palate concentration along with impressive power in terms of what is typical for Charmes, all wrapped in a sappy, long and balanced finale. Wine Advocate, January 2020, Score: 92-94
The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes is one of the high points of the range this year, unwinding to reveal a lovely bouquet of cherries, raspberries, orange rind, grilled squab, peonies, warm spices and espresso roast. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and muscular, with excellent concentration, lively acids and rich structuring tannins. This is the finest Charmes I've tasted at this address, and it comes warmly recommended.

A little fuller in colour and a warmer nose, with a touch of charcoal, heat has made cherry juice here and a slightly dry tannin but this holds up relatively well.

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less

Chambolle Musigny
The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
