Goedhuis, December 2019
The Pinsons own an impressive 4.5 hectares of this famous premier cru and it is their largest cuvée. This 2018 balances weight and intense, savoury flavours with a firm tension. There are notes of brioche and freshly cracked nuts on the finish.

Antonio Galloni, January 2020,
Score: 92-94The 2018 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru is impressive. Rich, pliant and beautifully layered, the Mont de Milieu is one of the highlights in this range. Perfumed aromatics and silky fruit add to its considerable appeal. A touch of oak in fermentation works so well here. Some of the wines in this range are more obvious and more showy, but few are as refined or as complete. The Mont de Milieu is so inviting.

Burghound, October 2019,
Score: 90-93Touches of the exotic are present in the form of lychee nut, dried apricot and white peach along with hints of petrol and quinine. The succulent and borderline oily medium weight plus flavors possess an abundance of dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the bitter lemon finish where an interesting hint of marmalade appears. This isn't classic but it is actually quite good. Sweet spot. Outstanding. Drink: 2026+

Jasper Morris MW, December 2019,
Score: 91-94There is a slight tweak in the vinification of this flagship cuvee with 10% fermented in new barrel, otherwise all in tank. The Mont de Milieu shows a pale colour and a light green tint, consistent with the other 2018 Pinson wines. There are ripe white fruit notes to the bouquet, some power, a huge weight of white fruit on the palate and a little bit of sunshine behind. This is a weighty wine but I think it will keep the balance.

Domaine Pinson Freres

The Pinson name is one of the most established in the town of Chablis; the family can trace its history there back to the 1640s. It is now run by brothers Christophe and Laurent, joined by Laurent’s daughter, Charlène. The family team oversee some of the finest parcels of old vines in the region from which they make extraordinarily fine and classical Chablis. They like to use oak barrels for maturation, although the influence of new oak is only ever a gentle whisper in the background of their steely wines. Their wines consistently show the raciness and elegance of fine Chablis.
Region
Chablis
Chablis is world famous for its fine white wines produced from the Chardonnay grape. The best vineyards are perched above the winding Serein river and are south or southwest facing ensuring better ripeness in this cooler climate. It has four appellation levels. Petit Chablis is the most modest and simple followed by Chablis, which is the largest and most prominent. Premier cru Chablis is the third largest appellation and encompasses almost 40 different climats or vineyards including the famed Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaumes and Mont de Milieu. The most noble of all Chablis are the grand crus of which there are 7 climats in total Bougros, Les Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchot. The wines of Chablis have remained some of the best value in the world, particularly their superb grand crus which can easily cost 50% less than its closest revered white grand cru neighbour, Corton Charlemagne.
