  • Goedhuis, November 2018

Made from a single parcel in the lieu dit Basses Maizières, which lies on the flat just below Les Suchots towards the border with Vougeot. Intense dark colour. This is quite a powerful Vosne Romanee, with strong dark forest fruits and a touch of gaminess. Intense, with a richly flavoured finish.

  • Neal Martin, January 2019, Score: 87-89

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Village has a backward, rather sultry nose at the moment, featuring black cherries mixed with cassis, and the new oak playing a fine supporting role. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin and more black fruit than red. Full of energy, with just a bit of CO2 toward the finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle once released. 2021 - 2029

  • Burghound, January 2019, Score: 87-90

Reduction dominates the nose today but there is good freshness and vibrancy to the sleek, rich and delicious medium-bodied flavors that aren't especially dense but they do offer better than average depth and persistence in a moderately structured package. Drink 2024+

  • Wine Advocate, January 2019, Score: 89-91

Deeper and more concentrated than its Chambolle counterpart, the 2017 Vosne-Romanée Village offers up notes of wild berries, smoked meats, incense and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied with good depth and amplitude, balanced by bright acids and framed by supple tannins. This is a definite success.

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
