Tasting Notes

    Goedhuis, October 2019

In a relatively short time the Martin family have established themselves as one of the finest domaines in the Mâconnais village of Davayé. Certified organic since 2010, this Pouilly Fuissé is showing plenty of crisp fruit flavours such as lemon, grapefruit and peach. The palate is rich yet precise with mineral aromas, refreshing, juicy fruit and a satisfying texture.

Producer

Domaine de la Croix Senaillet

"Domaine de la Croix Senaillet" takes its name from a cross that had been given by an ancient mayor of the village called Benoit Senaillet. The records show that the mayor donated the cross to Davayé in 1866 to replace the one that was destroyed in 1793 during the French Revolution. Maurice Martin established the domaine in 1969 and his son Richard took it over in 1990 and was joined by his brother Stephane in 1992. Internationally renowned for making some of St Veran's finest and most elegant wines, this reputation is down to hard work in the vineyards and minimal intervention in the winemaking process.

Region

Pouilly-Fuissé

At the southern tip of the Mâconnais lies Pouilly Fuisse - one of a group of five villages amid rolling limestone hills producing the most serious white wines in the area. At their best this is serious Chardonnay indeed, golden, rich and ripe. There is no hierarchy of wines in Pouilly Fuisse, but the appellation name may be followed by the name of a specific vineyard.
