Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, November 2018

This impressive premier cru faces the hillside of Corton Charlemagne. The cool east-facing white marl slope makes it an ideal site for growing vibrant zingy Chardonnay. Bright lemon yellow colour. This has a lovely zesty citrus flavour, mineral intensity, with hints of pecan nuts on the finish. Crisp, fresh and age worthy.

  • BURG

    Burghound, June 2019,
    Score: 91

Once again there is that vaguely skunky character that doesn't seem permanent but that is not a given so be sure to thoroughly aerate this first. The palate impression of the medium weight flavors is noticeably tighter and a bit more mineral-driven as well while delivering better length if not quite the same depth on the bone dry and youthfully austere finish. Outstanding top value. Drink 2023+

  • JR

    Jancis Robinson, January 2019,
    Score: 16.5

Stony lemon aroma and more mineral/stony on the palate compared with the Pernand Les Combottes. Lots of zip and length but has finesse too. Very good. Drink 2020-2027

Domaine Rapet Père et Fils

Domaine Rapet Pere et Fils can trace its history back as far as 1765. The Estate comprises 18 hectares of vines in the villages of Pernand-Vergelesses, Savigny les Beaune, Aloxe Corton and Beaune. Located between Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, the Pernand Vergelesses vineyard, tucked away in the green surroundings of a quiet valley, begins at the foot of Corton hill. It is the only vineyard to offer the whole range of vintages, in both white and red wines. Ageing of both red and white wines occurs in oak barrels (30% new for white and 20% new for red). All winery processes are undertaken to minimise the handling of the grapes.

Region

Pernand-Vergelesses

With its neighbours, Ladoix Serrigny and Aloxe-Corton, Pernand Vergelesses has its own village and premier cru appellations but shares the two grand crus: Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay. The limestone marl soil is well-suited to growing Chardonnay and the resulting white wines are crisp and mineral with a good capacity for ageing. Pinot Noir is planted in areas of redder iron-rich soil and the best vineyards produce charmingly soft red wines with classic notes of raspberries and violets.
