  This cuvée first appeared in 2015 when the young vines of Clos de l’Arlot (that had previously been declassified to village level under the ‘Petit Arlot’ label) had reached maturity. In 2016 frost damage meant yields were decimated, and Mont des Oiseaux was not bottled separately. The generosity of 2017 means this cuvée is back on the menu. It is a brilliant ruby colour and bursting with the aroma of crushed raspberries. The fruit was completely destemmed, and its 40% new oak gives richness and structure to the fruit-filled wine.

  The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Mont des Oiseaux will be bottled in April 2018. This sample represented all the barrels in the domaine's cellar. (Following the 2015 debut, there was no 2016 due to frost.) It comes from the younger vines at the top of the Clos de l’Arlot amphitheater, completely de-stemmed and matured with 35% new oak. The generous bouquet features intense blackberry and raspberry fruit, a tangible marine undercurrent developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite fleshy and generous, but there is fine purity toward the velvety-smooth finish. Enjoy this over the next six to eight years and revel in its sheer buvabilité. 2021 - 2027

Domaine de l'Arlot

Domaine de l'Arlot was created in 1987 when AXA Millésimes purchased the property in Prémeaux, just south of Nuits St Georges. Its history as a domaine, however, stretches back far into the Burgundian annals passing through the Vienot and Belin dynasties before AXA’s acquisition. The domaine’s recent history has been shaped by the influence of Jean-Pierre de Smet who ran the domaine for almost two decades before Christian Seely took over direction. In 2014 Christian installed Géraldine Godot as technical manager and winemaker. A native Burgundian, she is a qualified microbiologist and oenologist, and looks set for a bright future at this Côte de Nuits estate. The domaine favours whole bunch fermentation, seeking to produce wines with refinement and finesse. (Not to be confused with Domaine Arlaud in Morey St Denis.)
