Goedhuis, November 2018
This centrally located premier cru is renowned for its generous style of wines. This is a beautiful example that exudes elegance with its blend of tayberry and blackberry fruits. There is a wonderful richness with a supple, juicy volume.

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of rose petal and soy aromas, more open and expressive than the Lavaux Saint-Jacques. The palate is well balanced with sappy red fruit, smooth texture and gentle grip toward the finish, which lacks some depth and persistence. As such, I have a preference for the Lavaux this year. 2020 - 2032

Light crimson. Seductive ripe, red cherries on the nose. Intense and sour-fresh on the palate. Mouth-watering and so fresh on the palate yet has real depth of fruit to fill out the firm, rounded tannins. Drink 2023-2032

The Tortochot family have been respected vignerons in Gevrey Chambertin since the 19th century, but it is in recent times, under the stewardship of Chantal Tortochot, that key changes have taken place. Previously Chantal Tortochot’s father Gabriel sold most of his fruit to the famous Beaune négociant, Joseph Drouhin. Since taking over in 2001 Chantal has been carefully and surely building the domaine’s name and reputation around the world. In 2008 she made the next step by beginning conversion of her 12 hectares to fully organic practices, which was certifed in 2013. Since 2016 Chantal has incorporated up to 25% whole bunch fermented fruit, allowing the mineral salts imparted by the stems to give a vibrant freshness to her wines.Read less

Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
