Goedhuis, April 2019,
From an estate based in the breath-taking Cienega Valley, California, lying only 20 miles from the Pacific Coast. The cool maritime conditions and unique soils have produced a wonderful wine in 2017 and this Estate Chardonnay is pure and elegant with beautiful poise, stunning white stone fruit and a mouth-watering minerality.
Wine Advocate, February 2020,
Grapes for the 2017 Chardonnay Estate were harvested September 18 and October 1-3. Aged in 18% new French oak for 10 months, the nose is brightly scented of Meyer lemon peel, fresh quince, Bosc pear and white peaches with a floral undercurrent plus touches of crushed slate and yeast. The palate is light-bodied, bright and fresh with honeyed bass notes and great freshness on the long, clean finish. 1,651 cases produced.
Eden Rift Vineyards
Under vine since 1849, Eden Rift is one of the oldest continually producing estate vineyards in California. A remote, pacific refuge located under the shadow of the Gavilan Mountain Range, the estate rests on the San Andreas Fault. Only 20 miles from the Pacific Ocean, this site benefits from an ideal, temperate maritime climate as well as the coveted calcareous soils requisite in the cultivation of vivid and energetic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Eden Rift's winemaker Cory Waller, spent time in Napa, Oregon and in Martinborough, New Zealand, and neighbouring Calera, before joining the team at Eden Rift. A man of few words, Waller favours the fruit of vines that struggle profoundly to produce small, yet delineated yields. He prefers to allow Mother Nature to do her thing.
California is responsible for producing more than 80% of all North American wine. The state extends some 1,100 km north to south and vineyards can be found along most of its length. Pacific ocean breezes and high altitude offer welcome cooling influences to the warm, bright sunshine. This region is rich in old vines, many being planted in the late 19th century and boasts an extraordinary range of soil. It's home to someof thge worl's most prestigious wines and produces a rich and diverse range of wine styles, from stately and expressive Cabernet Sauvignons to juicy and elegant Pinot Noirs. Notable wine regions include Napa Valley and Sonoma County.
