The 2017 Corton Clos des Cortons-Faiveley Grand Cru has a very well-defined bouquet of vivacious red fruit, sous-bois and light rose petal scents; there is a slight reduction here. The palate is grippy and lightly spiced, with good red fruit intensity, but does not quite deliver the expected weight and concentration on the finish. This is a bit conservative compared to the Clos des Marechaudes from Domaine du Pavillon. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. Drink 2023 - 2036

The 2017 Corton Clos des Corton Faiveley Grand Cru comes from a monopole of around 3 hectares. It has quite a powerful bouquet of assertive red currant and cranberry fruit, fig jam and a hint of dates. The medium-bodied palate displays supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. Quite stocky in style, with a saline, quite persistent finish that lingers in the mouth. Excellent. 2024 - 2040

An intensely earthy nose is comprised by notably ripe dark currant aromas that are cut with underbrush, spice and a whiff of wood toast and the sauvage. There is an attractive freshness and plenty of vivacity to the velvet-textured full-bodied and overtly muscular flavors that possess terrific punch on the beautifully long, youthfully austere and notably firm finish. I like the overall sense of complexity and this too should age effortlessly. Drink 2035+

The 2017 Corton Grand Cru Clos des Cortons Faiveley wafts from the glass with a youthfully reserved but pretty bouquet of red berries, plums, spices and raw cocoa. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with juicy acids, sneaky depth at the core and a long, mineral finish. Reminiscent of a somewhat broader-shouldered version of the 2007 rendition, this will offer a broad drinking window. 92-94

The Grands Crus of Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay are shared between Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix Serrigny and Pernand Vergelesses. The vines for both are planted on the hillsides underneath the plateau of Corton's woodland forest. The majorityof Pinot Noir is planted in the southern and eastern sector where the soil is naturally rich with red iron clay giving additional body and power. Overall, the wines from these areas tend to be fruit forward and fleshy with a balance of round edges and fine concentration.
