Tasting Notes

    Goedhuis, November 2018

This comes from one of the very best parcels of this famous vineyard at the top of the Clos, next door to the Château. An exemplary wine in 2017. Its concentration is the result of both leaf plucking and green harvesting to achieve maximum ripeness. A wine with succulent opulence, beautiful summer pudding flavours and a long powerful finish.

    Neal Martin, Janaury 2019,
    Score: 92-94

The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is completely de-stemmed and matures in 80% new oak. It has an expressive and aromatic bouquet with pretty blueberry, raspberry and iodine aromas that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very effervescent from the start with vivid red and black fruit infused with orange zest and light fig notes. Very fine. 2022 - 2040

  • BURG

    Burghound, January 2019,
    Score: 89-92

Firm reduction overshadows the fruit at present. More positively, there is excellent energy and density to the powerful and muscular broad-shouldered flavors that possess a healthy level of the same on the austere, rustic and bitter cherry-inflected finish that is a bit clipped. Like the Bonnes Mares, this is somewhat awkward and while it may harmonize, I'm less certain that this will come together though to be clear, I would not expect it to be a poor wine either. Domaine Drouhin Laroze

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: parents Christine and Philippe, and children Caroline and Nicolas. They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.
