The 2017 Chorey-lès-Beaune Village is the usual blend of three sectors of the appellation that Nathalie Tollot blended in the proportion of what will represent the final blend, since each is raised separately. It sees no new oak. The perfumed cranberry and wild strawberry bouquet is nicely defined, and the pretty palate shows quite sharp acidity that lends freshness and edginess. I like the fruit profile here - very pure and full of life with a vigorous, refreshing finish that leaves a spicy residue. Very fine. 2020 - 2026

A more elegant if similar nose offers up just a bit more complexity that is also the case for the equally succulent and rich medium weight flavors that also flash a hint of bitter cherry on the slightly firmer finish. This too would make a nice choice for an upper level house red that also could be enjoyed young but cellared for a few years as well. Drink 2022+

Producer

Domaine Tollot-Beaut et Fils

The wines of Tollot-Beaut are some of the best we taste every vintage. Uncomplicated, pure and fresh, they epitomize everything that we love about wines from the Côte de Beaune. In addition, their fleshiness and approachability makes them perfect for cynics who claim that Burgundy is not their cup of tea. The 22-hectare domaine has been family-owned for years. Today, the young, friendly and exceptionally bright Nathalie Tollot manages the domaine with her cousins. The wines are vinified fairly traditionally. About 40% of the crop is de-stemmed, though this varies depending on vintage. The wines are fermented in open-top wooden vats before being aged in oak barrels that are 10-50% new. Very lightly fined and filtered before bottling, the resulting wines are often opulent with noticeable density, always clean and superbly pure. Just wonderful Burgundy.

Region

Chorey-lès-Beaune

Chorey-lès-Beaune, located on the plain just to the North of Beaune, produces wines that are fleshy, fruit rich and approachable. Red wines dominate, although a little white can be found. Like Ladoix Serrigny and Pernand Vergelesses, the reds can also be labelled as Côte de Beaune Villages, if a producer so chooses. Chorey has no premier or grand cru vineyards. The most famous producers are Tollot-Beaut and Château de Chorey.
