Goedhuis, January 2019
A gorgeously perfumed wine, epitomising the grace of this great grand cru. Initial aromas of rose petals give way to glorious white peaches and apricots. This is a wine of total harmony. It is sensual and alive and the soft bite of acidity on the finish provides an added nuance of complexity.
Stephen Tanzer, September 2018,
Pale, green-tinged yellow. Lovely lift to the aromas of lime zest, white flowers and powdered stone. Dense, salty and penetrating, conveying an impression of mineral depth without any weight. Very zesty wine--distinctly lemon-limey in the context of this collection. Finishes subtly saline and very long, with a mouth-drying element of powdered stone and terrific floral lift.
Decanter, October 2018,
When it's as good as this, Chevalier is every bit as exciting as the more famous and expensive Montrachet. This four-barrel parcel from the highest part of the grand cru is particularly delicate and refined. Tangy, crunchy and mouthwateringly fresh, it's a brilliant wine that wasn't easy to produce in a vintage like 2017. Drink 2021 - 2032
Domaine Etienne Sauzet
Etienne Sauzet is one of the great estates of Puligny Montrachet, taking its name from current incumbent Emilie Riffault's great grandfather who founded this domaine in the early 1900s. It boasts 15 hecatres of vineyards, comprising four white grands crus in Puligny and Chassagne and nine premiers crus. Today, under Emilie and husband Benoit's direction, their owned vineyards are fully biodynamic and they are one of the flag bearers for the appellation of Puligny.
Chevalier-Montrachet is a tiny Grand Cru appellation for white wine situated on the stony slopes just above Le Montrachet towards the southern end of the Cote d'Or. The wines are exceptional, if slightly lighter in style than their neighbour down the hill.
