Goedhuis, November 2018
The 60 year old vines grown on the clay soils at the top of the Montmain hill produces a textural, rounded, and intense wine. This has a ripe and concentrated nose, with tropical notes of green pineapple and banana. There is soft but bright acidity, and a pretty, bitter note on the finish.

Antonio Galloni, January 2020, Score: 93
Soft and silky, Pinson's 2017 Chablis Montmain 1er Cru is a very pretty and expressive wine that will drink nicely with minimal cellaring. Chamomile, crushed flowers, hazelnut, marzipan, spice and lemon confit inform a Chablis that is a model of sensuality and grace. Drink 2020+

Burghound, October 2018, Score: 90-92
Here the nose reflects post-fermentation notes of lactic and reduction. More positively there is fine richness and mid-palate density and in particular I very much like the sleek texture of the middle weight flavors that are at once powerful, serious and long. Drink: 2022+

Jasper Morris MW, May 2018, Score: 90-93
Planted in 1956. Pale colour. Light barrel notes on the nose, also adding a wooded dimension at the back. Concentrated fruit in between the two with a reductive note which is typical from the blue clay soil here. 4 stars.

The Pinson family vie with the Droins as one of the oldest in the town, with documents showing their presence back in 1640, while 1880 shows the first records of Louis Pinson selling bottles of their wine under the family label. It is now run by brothers Christophe and Laurent, joined by Laurent’s daughter, Charlène. The family team oversee 12 hectares of vineyards, including 2.5 hectares of Les Clos and 4.75 hectares of Mont de Milieu, from which they make extraordinarily fine and classical Chablis. They like to use oak barrels for maturation, although the influence of new oak is only ever a gentle whisper in the background of their steely wines. Their wines consistently show the raciness and elegance of fine Chablis.Read less

Region
Chablis
Chablis is world famous for its fine white wines produced from the Chardonnay grape. The best vineyards are perched above the winding Serein river and are south or southwest facing ensuring better ripeness in this cooler climate. It has four appellation levels. Petit Chablis is the most modest and simple followed by Chablis, which is the largest and most prominent. Premier cru Chablis is the third largest appellation and encompasses almost 40 different climats or vineyards including the famed Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaumes and Mont de Milieu. The most noble of all Chablis are the grand crus of which there are 7 climats in total Bougros, Les Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchot. The wines of Chablis have remained some of the best value in the world, particularly their superb grand crus which can easily cost 50% less than its closest revered white grand cru neighbour, Corton Charlemagne.
