Tasting Notes

  • BURG

    Burghound, January 2020,
    Score: 93pts

A very ripe yet agreeably fresh nose reflects notes of blue berry, plum liqueur and violet that are cut with spice, menthol and earth hints. The exceptionally rich and impressively full-bodied flavors evidence a taut muscularity, all wrapped in an overtly powerful and lingering finish that is naturally sweet. As one would reasonably expect this is quite firm; indeed it's borderline rustic. Drink 2032+

Producer

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé

This domaine can trace its history back over 500 years. It has been in the hands of the same family which is now in its 20th generation.George's grand-daughters Clare de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette are the family members presently involved.Currently the wine is overseen by Francois Millet as winemaker and Eric Bourgogne as chef de vignes. The vineyards spread to 12.5 hectares. They, amazingly, adapt their techniques depending on the conditions of the particular vintage, and rather disparage those who have a single "best" technique every year. This, hopefully, allows a purer expression of the raw material and vintage.

Region

Bonnes Mares

Perched between Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny in the heart of the Cotes de Nuits this Grand Cru appellation can balance the best characteristics of both. Bonnes Mares wines combine fragrance and femininity with body and power. A seductive combination indeed.
