Tasting Notes

Neal Martin, January 2019,
Score: 91-93The 2017 Aloxe-Corton Les Fournières 1er Cru, which I tasted from a used barrel, has a delightful bouquet of red cherries, crushed strawberry and perhaps the most expressive mineralité of the domaine’s three Aloxe Premier Crus. The palate is very harmonious and complete, presenting fine, saturated tannin counterbalanced by a fine thread of acidity. There is great depth here, with veins of blue fruit toward the floral finish. Highly recommended. 2021 - 2036

Burghound, April 2019,
Score: 92This is the first wine to display any significant wood influence and even here it's quite subtle on the pretty aromas of spiced plum, violet and earth where a top note of maraschino cherry appears. The sleek, delicious and more concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess excellent depth and persistence. This fine effort is worth considering. Sweet spot. Drink 2025+

Domaine Tollot-Beaut et Fils

The wines of Tollot-Beaut are some of the best we taste every vintage. Uncomplicated, pure and fresh, they epitomize everything that we love about wines from the Côte de Beaune. In addition, their fleshiness and approachability makes them perfect for cynics who claim that Burgundy is not their cup of tea. The 22-hectare domaine has been family-owned for years. Today, the young, friendly and exceptionally bright Nathalie Tollot manages the domaine with her cousins. The wines are vinified fairly traditionally. About 40% of the crop is de-stemmed, though this varies depending on vintage. The wines are fermented in open-top wooden vats before being aged in oak barrels that are 10-50% new. Very lightly fined and filtered before bottling, the resulting wines are often opulent with noticeable density, always clean and superbly pure. Just wonderful Burgundy.
Region
Aloxe Corton
With its neighbours, Ladoix Serrigny and Pernand Vergelesses, Aloxe-Corton has its own village and premier cru appellations but shares the two grand crus: Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay. The vines for both are planted on the hillsides underneath the plateau of Corton's woodland forest. The majority of Pinot Noir is planted in thesouthern and eastern sector where the soil is naturally rich with red iron clay giving additional body and power. Overall, the wines from Aloxe-Corton tend to be fruit forward and fleshy with a balance of round edges and fine concentration.
