  • Goedhuis, December 2017

This displays the classic traits of the village, with supple cherry fruit, velvety tannins, and a long, smooth finish. A village cuvée with appealing energy, and wonderful pinosity.

  • Neal Martin, December 2017, Score: 89-91

The 2016 Vosne Romanee Villages is an expanded cuvée since Leroux takes all the fruit from his contractors. It has an engaging bouquet with a gorgeous red cherry and strawberry bouquet laced with violets. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red and black fruit, quite a good backbone for a village cru partly from whole bunch (50+%) with a detailed finish. Recommended. Drink 2019-2029

  • Burghound, April 2018, Score: 88

A very fresh and subtly floral nose of airy red pinot fruit and spice nuances leads to intense, energetic and suave middle weight flavors that possess reasonably good depth and fine length on the delicious if slightly warm and chewy finish. Drink 2023+

  • Stephen Tanzer, January 2018, Score: 89-91

Good deep red. Very subtle aromas and flavors of dark berries, spices, minerals and violet, plus a minty nuance. Suave, classy village wine with a fine-grained texture and a long, pliant finish. This lovely wine finished its malolactic fermentation early and will get an early bottling.

  • Jancis Robinson, November 2017, Score: 16+

Mostly from Flagey-Echezeaux including Maizières Basses. 60% whole bunch. Racked three weeks ago but still on lees. 22 pièces, of which five were new. Racy and smooth and a little sweeter than many a Vosne but with good energy. Still a little drying on the end. Drink 2022-2028

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
