Tasting Notes

    Neal Martin, December 2017,
    Score: 90-92

The 2016 Saint Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly has a fresh, quite stony bouquet with red apples, cold slate and subtle smoky scents—a more understated nose but clean and precise. The palate is well balanced with fresh acidity and good weight, yet it clams up towards the finish and at this stage, does not deliver the riveting complexity and spine-tingling mineralité of recent vintages. Let’s see how this performs once in bottle. It is a very good Saint-Aubin, but maybe it can strive for even more once in bottle. Drink 2019-2030

  • BURG

    Burghound, June 2018,
    Score: 91-93

There is mild touch of the exotic in the form of mandarin orange and viognier-like scents where additional notes of Granny Smith apples and citrus are present. Impressively dense and vibrant medium weight flavors brim with dry extract that buffers the firm acid spine shaping the mineral-driven finish. Excellent. Sweet spot Outstanding. Drink: 2023+

    Decanter, January 2018,
    Score: 92

The En Remilly is a touch more concentrated and textural than the Murgers des Dents de Chien, wafting from the glass with aromas of citrus zest, preserved lemon and crème pâtissière. On the palate the wine is supple, flossy and full-bodied, with succulent acids and lovely amplitude and dimension. Drinking Window 2022 - 2033

Producer

Domaine Hubert Lamy

The Lamy family has worked the vines in St.Aubin since 1640. Today the domaine is run by Olivier Lamy who recently took over from his father. The domaine produces around 8,500 cases of red and white wine from their 16.5 hectares; the vines are spread around the Côte de Beaune villages of Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Santenay. Since 1997 all production has been domaine-bottled; the output is high quality - their Saint-Aubins in particular are often superior to wines from more fashionable villages.

Region

Saint-Aubin

Due west of Puligny and Chassagne lies the little, picturesque village of St. Aubin. With the neighbouring village of Gamay, it produces 2/3 white wine and 1/3 red wine over 230 hectares of vines of which over 3/4 are premier cru. It was one of the last appellations created in only 1970 but has since created an excellent reputation for good value well made Burgundy that can replicatePuligny. Some of the most expressive vineyards are En Remilly and Les Murgers des Dents de Chien.
