Tasting Notes

  • BURG

    Burghound, June 2018,
    Score: 89pts

A slightly more elegant nose features notes of red grapefruit, petrol and pretty floral wisps. The sleek, intense and delineated medium weight flavors possess good if not better depth and persistence on the slightly dry and youthfully austere finish. This will need a year or two to better harmonize but it should be very good in time. Drink 2022+

Producer

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is based in the village of Chassagne Montrachet and is the creation of Pierre-Yves Colin and Caroline Morey. Talented winemaker Pierre-Yves started out at his father’s estate, Domaine Marc Colin in 1994. In 2001 he and his wife, Caroline Morey, set up a small négociant operation on the side and in 2005 he left the family domaine to pursue this venture full time, taking with him six hectares of Marc Colin vineyards. Today, a third of production is négoce while the rest comes from vines they own. In the winery, Pierre-Yves and Caroline have gone to great lengths to prevent premature oxidation, including using corks with a wider diameter. There is no bâtonnage and the wines are kept in barrel longer (mostly 350 litres demi-muids) to avoid the need for fining and filtration.

Region

Saint-Aubin

Due west of Puligny and Chassagne lies the little, picturesque village of St. Aubin. With the neighbouring village of Gamay, it produces 2/3 white wine and 1/3 red wine over 230 hectares of vines of which over 3/4 are premier cru. It was one of the last appellations created in only 1970 but has since created an excellent reputation for good value well made Burgundy that can replicatePuligny. Some of the most expressive vineyards are En Remilly and Les Murgers des Dents de Chien.
