Tasting Notes
-
Antonio Galloni, March 2019,
Score: 93-96One of the highlights in this range, the 2016 Saffredi is a hugely promising wine marked by a beguiling combination of vertical structure, energy and concentration. Black cherry, lavender, spice, plum, sage and lavender all pulse with remarkable energy. Massive and yet remarkably vivid for such an intense wine, the 2016 is shaping up to be a real jewel of a wine.
-
James Suckling, November 2018,
Score: 99Incredible aromas of dark berries, lavender, rosemary, licorice and dried flowers. Spice. Full body and fantastic tannin texture with great length. Goes on for minutes. Muscular yet wonderfully formed and refined. A glorious Saffredi.
-
James Suckling, September 2017,
Score: 96-97A very balanced yet structured red with a medium to full body, integrated tannins and a rich yet juicy finish. Exciting. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and petit verdot.

Producer
Fattoria Le Pupille

Fattoria le Pupille has produced tiny amounts of wine since the 1970's where it had just two hectares of sangiovese. In 1978 Morellino di Scansano DOC was created and that year the first harvest of this wine was made at Le Pupille.Young Elisabetta Geppetti decided in the early 1980's to become responsible for these vines and to make exceptional wine. Slowly the estate expanded with more varieties whilst maintaining excellent quality and consistency across the range. In 2006, Elisabetta Geppetti was awarded the title "winemaker of the Year" by german magazines Der Feinschmecker and Wein Gourmet; she was the first woman to receive this award.
Region
Tuscany
Arguably the most celebrated of all Italian regions for its sun, delicious food and rich wines. Chianti lies at the heart of this centrally located, picturesque and expansive area. Tuscany is also home to Chianti's more powerful cousin, Brunello di Montalcino, illustrious Super Tuscanblends and spicy, exuberant whites.
