Goedhuis, October 2017
Hailing from the famous slopes of Hermitage. This appellation had to handle some of the trickier weather of the vintage, even encountering a smattering of hail in the summer, but no major damage was inflicted and this wine shows all the classic hallmarks of a Colombier Hermitage, built for the long run. A deeply coloured Hermitage with rich fruit content on the nose. On the palate the dense fruit has a chewy intensity and structure, showing the muscle of full-bodied Syrah.

Jancis Robinson, November 2017, Score: 17++
Intense, baked cherry fruit, spices and just a little violet character. Powerful but not with the most expressive flavour range, especially for the generous 2016 vintage. Needs more time to spread its wings, perhaps. It certainly doesn't lack the concentration to last. (RH) 13.5% Drink 2020-2035

Region
Hermitage
Hermitage is a region that produces both red and white wines. Its famous red is made from 100% Syrah while the white is produced from Marsanne and/or Roussanne. A sweeter and very rare white wine is also produced from grapes that have been dried on straw before being pressed. A slighter warmer micro-climate enables Hermitage's red wines to have more ripeness and structure than Côte Rôtie which adds additional power and longevity. As a result, they are usually the most ‘masculine' styled reds in all of the northern Rhône.
