Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, December 2017

Another family treasure passed down from father to son recently, and again, only one barrel made. This fabulous grand cru is positioned at the top of the hill within Puligny Montrachet, just above Le Montrachet. It has a majestic power in its focused richness, and shows off the fresh energy of the finest wines in 2016. Its length is staggering.

  • BURG

    Burghound, June 2018,
    Score: 92-95

Ripe, fresh and more elegant aromas display a highly appealing and markedly floral array of rose petal, citrus, lavender, acacia, spice and citrus peel. Strikingly refined and equally elegant middle weight plus flavors exude evident minerality while simultaneously displaying outstanding power and length on the youthfully austere finish. Like the Bâtard this is really impressive but it's an exercise in refinement and completeness. Don't miss! Drink: 2028+

Producer

Domaine Bruno Colin

Bruno’s estate is spread across an impressive 30+ different parcels in Chassagne Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet and St Aubin. From 2016 onwards, his portfolio includes Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Desmoiselles and Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru, passed down to him by his father, Michel, who has stepped into retirement (Michel Colin-Deleger’s estate was divided between his two sons, Bruno and Philippe). Bruno’s style blends Burgundy's tell-tale minerality with luxuriant fruit. The wines tend to display generous concentration with vibrant drive. Many have the potential to age beautifully but Bruno’s wines are also notable for their open approachability in youth. His wide range of Chassagne Montrachet premiers crus captures the diverse expression of the appellation.

Region

Chevalier-Montrachet

Chevalier-Montrachet is a tiny Grand Cru appellation for white wine situated on the stony slopes just above Le Montrachet towards the southern end of the Cote d'Or. The wines are exceptional, if slightly lighter in style than their neighbour down the hill.
