Goedhuis, December 2017
The domaine has a generous 0.45 ha slice of this great grand cru, lying right next to Griotte Chambertin. These vines were planted in 1936, and although many of Geantet-Pansiot’s wines drink well from youth, this brooding and concentrated cuvée will need a few years before its begins to open up. If you can be patient you will reap the rewards: it has the stature and length of truly grand cru quality.

Burghound, January 2018, Score: 92-94
Here the wood treatment is more evident with touches of toast and menthol surrounding the agreeably fresh aromas of red currant, plum, humus and warm earth. The sleek, delicious and generously proportioned broad-shouldered flavors possess both outstanding concentration and power before culminating in a driving and strikingly persistent bitter fruit pit-inflected finish that is shaped by a prominent and very firm core of ripe tannins. This should be excellent in time. Drink: 2031+

Taking its name from founders Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot back in 1954, this domaine has grown from 7 to 22 hectares under the direction of their son Vincent Geantet and his children Fabien and Emilie. Having outgrown their historical cellars, they invested in a new winery, and their wines show all the advantages that this additional space provides. Traditionally, they de-stem 100% of their fruit and allow the must a few days of cool maceration prior to fermentation starting, which enhances the colour and aromatic content of their wines. Through a combination of old vines (plenty of centenaries in their vineyards), sumptuous fruit concentration and generous new oak they make a hedonistic style of Burgundy.Read less

Charmes Chambertin
Charmes-Chambertin is one of the nine Grand Crus vineyards within the Gevrey Chambertin area. On gentle slopes, sheltered from the elements by woods to the north, gravelly soil forces the vines to work hard. Relatively large for a Grand Cru appellation, it is hard to generalise about the wines. Often intensely perfumed and seductive, Charmes-Chambertin can be approachable earlier than its Grand Crus neighbours.
