Goedhuis, November 2017
A cooler style of Beaux Bruns than in some years. This wine focuses on fresh summer strawberry fruits. This is tightly knit with a crisp fresh tannic core, giving way to a lovely gentle sweetness on the finish. It has good purity although it is less “gourmand” than in some years.

Neal Martin, December 2017, Score: 89-91
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns comprises only six barrels this year, half the normal production, with one-third new oak. It has a relatively light bouquet for a Beaux Bruns, gradually unfolding with red berry fruit, something almost ferrous, with blackberry and briary scents emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. I find this Chambolle harmonious and composed, not long like the 2015 but detailed with fine mineral tension on the finish. Drink 2020-2030

Burghound, January 2018, Score: 90-92
This is more aromatically elegant than usual with its fresh array of cool essence of red currant, cherry, violet and soft spice wisps. There is fine density to the sappy and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that display fine depth and persistence on the balanced finish. This is a classic Beaux Bruns that combines a taut muscularity with a refined mouthfeel. Drink: 2024+

Stephen Tanzer, January 2018, Score: 90-92
Bright red with ruby tones. Crushed black fruits and cherry on the nose, lifted by notes of mint, rock and orange zest. Pliant but firm wine with thickness, clarity and lift. Sappy flavors of medicinal dark cherry, spices and red licorice display excellent balance and depth. A strong performance for this cuvée, from a crop that was off by 50% due to the frost. This reminded me of the superb 1993 bottling.

Exquisitely pure, ethereal, and terroir-driven, Ghislaine’s wines also have wonderful mineral raciness. The domaine was originally created by Marcel Noëllat, Ghislaine’s maternal grandfather. After attending viticultural college in Beaune in the 1980s, she began assisting her father, Gaston Barthod, at the family domaine. Her straightforward, no-nonsense approach helped introduce a sorting table, extended lees contact, a gentle cold soak before fermentation, and domaine bottling. All this enabled greater control over the quality of fruit, texture of tannins, and purity of flavours. The results have been year upon year of magical masterpieces from Chambolle Musigny. Along with her partner Louis Boillot, today she is joined in the vineyard and cellar by their son, Clément.Read less

Region
Chambolle Musigny
The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
