Burghound, January 2018,
Deep ruby. Once again there is an exuberant freshness to the nose of plum, violet, peony, spice and earth aromas. There is outstanding density and power to the big-bodied and overtly muscular flavors that deliver fine complexity though the finish is somewhat drying and a bit short. This showed awkwardly today because while the tannins seem ripe they are rough and somewhat inelegant. This may very well come together but I have at least some concern about that. Drink 2031+
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé
This domaine can trace its history back over 500 years. It has been in the hands of the same family which is now in its 20th generation.George's grand-daughters Clare de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette are the family members presently involved.Currently the wine is overseen by Francois Millet as winemaker and Eric Bourgogne as chef de vignes. The vineyards spread to 12.5 hectares. They, amazingly, adapt their techniques depending on the conditions of the particular vintage, and rather disparage those who have a single "best" technique every year. This, hopefully, allows a purer expression of the raw material and vintage.
Perched between Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny in the heart of the Cotes de Nuits this Grand Cru appellation can balance the best characteristics of both. Bonnes Mares wines combine fragrance and femininity with body and power. A seductive combination indeed.
