  • Goedhuis, December 2016

A sophisticated wine with bright crystalline fruit characters. This is sweet, generous and very full with ripe broad velvety tannins. It finishes with a glorious richness of fresh fruits.

  • Neal Martin, December 2016, Score: 93-95

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées has a very complex nose that is quintessential Brûlées: red berry fruit, savory, hints of game with a smear of Seville orange marmalade. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe red berry fruit, a more masculine and structured wine with black pepper and even graphite notes towards the compelling but quite classic finish. Wonderful length here, this is a Vosne-Romanée that will require several years in bottle. Drink 2021 - 2045

  • Burghound, January 2017, Score: 90-93

Here there is no reduction and the wonderfully spicy and expressive nose offers up ripe and fresh aromas of plum, violet and sandalwood. The lush, even opulent medium weight flavors possess a velvety texture while delivering excellent depth on the sappy, beautifully long and well-balanced finale. Lovely juice. Outstanding. One of the most famous names in Vosne Romanée, Domaine Grivot dates back to the nineteenth century. Over the years and marriages, the domaine grew to include vineyards in notable appellations such as Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Richebourg. Etienne, the fifth generation of the family to run the estate, returned to Burgundy from work experience in California in the 1980s. He eventually took over from his father completely in 1990. Over time and through experience, Etienne has created his own style of wine, which many tasters consider to be growing in elegance. The wines remain powerful and rich, true vins de garde, which usually need several years of cellaring to soften and develop. Those patient enough to wait know that the wines of Etienne Grivot are exceptional. In 2012 his children Mathilde and Hubert joined him at the family domaine, and the three share a united vision. It is a harmonious and collaborative family team. They eschew the trend for analysing every drop of juice, and pay much more attention to the vegetative cycle of their vines. The year’s weather conditions will dictate how the team handles the grapes in the cellar far more than the complex chemical analyses which comes back from the lab.Read less

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
