Neal Martin, July 2019,
Score: 92The 2015 Ségla reveals baked cherries, hoisin and light cedar aromas on the nose, which is tightly wound at first but gains intensity with aeration. The oak is neatly integrated. The very well-balanced, medium-bodied palate features firm tannin, commendable purity, smooth texture and just a touch of white pepper and graphite toward the persistent finish. This is a classy Margaux to add to many others. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

Neal Martin, April 2016,
Score: 90-92The 2015 Segla is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, and a "seasoning" of 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, representing just over half the total crop, matured in 25% new wood. It has a fragrant, very precise bouquet with mineral-rich, very pure blackberry, blueberry and cold flint-like aromas. There is wonderful tension here for a deuxième vin. The palate is medium-bodied with a juicy opening, just a tingle of spice on the tip of the tongue. There is very fine tension here, moderate weight but great persistence and sense of energy on the finish. On a budget? Thinking of a second wine? Look no further. Drink: 2019 - 2033

James Suckling, April 2016,
Score: 92-93A solid red with a dense palate of ripe fruit, chewy tannins and a savory finish. This shows structure and reserve. Excellent second wine from Rauzan.

Jancis Robinson, April 2016,
Score: 16.5Dark and a little severe. Dense and plush in terms of tannin. Just not that seductively sweet in terms of flavour. Drink 2021-2028

Château Rauzan-Ségla

Originating in the 17th century, Rauzan Sègla was created by Pierre de Mesures de Rauzan whopurchased large tracts of land which included neighbouring Rauzan Gassies, Desmirail and Marquisde Terme. Within a short period of time, Rauzan Sègla became high on collectors lists rivallingLéoville, Gruaud Larose and Mouton Rothschild. One of its followers included Thomas Jeffersonwho purchased several cases of the 1790 vintage. Over the years it was divided and sold on to various owners falling deeper and deeper into oblivion until the 1980s when its old, wooden vats were replaced with stainless steel and excellent clones of Cabernet Sauvignon replaced the tired Merlot. In 1994, the château was taken over by Chanel who have continued this drive for quality.
Region
Margaux
Plump, silky and seductive are the words often used to describe wines from Margaux. Because of their style, they tend to be user friendly and more approachable when young. This is in part due to its terroir which is comprised of the thinnest soil as well as the highest proportion of chunky gravel in all of the Médoc. It drains well but also is it more susceptible to vintage variation. Margaux wines tend to have the highest proportions of Merlot within the core of the Médoc further adding to their ample roundness and openness. Margaux is home to the largest number of classified growths including its namesake first growth, Château Margaux, as well as third growths, Palmer and d'Issan.
