    This is a high class lieu dit, which Louis says is a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde: always one of the coldest sites in winter and one of the warmest in summer, principally due to its strong chalky soil. Very intense with masses of pomegranates and crunchy red fruits, this has lovely purity and great length.

    While not quite as elegant as the Chambolle, the natural refinement of Evocelles is very much on display with its cool, pure and equally airy aromas of red and blue pinot fruit, spice, tea and discreet earth nuances. There is a bit more volume and tension to the medium weight and strikingly well-delineated medium-bodied flavors that possess an almost pungent minerality while delivering terrific length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. Louis is the seventh generation of vignerons in Burgundy from a family who is mostly known for their Côte de Beaune wines such as Pommard and Volnay however, several Côte de Nuits appellations including Gevrey Chambertin were added to the repertoire in 1978. Gevrey Chambertin

The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
