Goedhuis, December 2016
Échezeaux has triumphed in 2015. This example has the grand cru’s signature iodine/soy sauce tones blended with its equally distinctive feminine fluidity. There are great layers here, volume, depth, and power. It should stand the test of time, and develop fluently.

Burghound, January 2018, Score: 93
This is both spicier and somewhat more expressive as well with its plummy aromas of tea, anise, clove, sandalwood and cassis. There is a rounder and much more seductive mouthfeel to the sappy and velvet-textured flavors that deliver fine length and reasonably good complexity for such a young wine. This is lovely and generous yet underneath the baby fat is a firm core of ripe tannins so this should age very well over the next 12 to 15 years. Drink 2027+

Son of the family who used to own the illustrious Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, Nicolas Potel set up his négociant label Maison Roche de Bellene in 2008. A Bourguignon through and through, Nicolas’ unrivalled local network of thoroughly reliable grower-suppliers allows him to source fruit from the most sought-after parcels in the Côte. He also produces a selection of domaine wines (under Domaine de Bellene). The emphasis remains to this day on well-sited venerable vines and viticulture and the Maison Roche de Bellene label is the superlative source of attractive, well-priced Burgundy wines. Nicolas chose the name ‘Bellene' in honour of the ancient Roman name for Beaune.Read less
