Goedhuis, December 2016
A muscular incarnation of this vineyard, the Bellène cellar always offers terrific value in this grand cru. There is a combination of crunchy red fruits and dark berry finesse on the back palate, with some noticeably chewy Côte de Beaune tannins.

Burghound, January 2018, Score: 93
nce again there is just enough reduction present to reduce the appeal of the plum, spice and various dark berry fruit scented nose. The round, delicious and nicely voluminous medium-bodied flavors possess a velvety mouthfeel though there is good muscle underneath the baby fat and this sneaky long and impressively complex effort should be capable of aging effortlessly.

Jancis Robinson, December 2016, Score: 16.5
Deep crimson. Charming, vital, sweet cherry fruit. Lots of attack but perhaps not a great deal of subtlety. Bright fruit. Drink 2025-2035

A Bourguignon through and through, Nicolas’ unrivalled local network of thoroughly reliable grower-suppliers allows him to source fruit from the most sought-after parcels in the Côte. He also produces a selection of domaine wines (under Domaine de Bellene). The emphasis remains to this day on well-sited venerable vines and viticulture and the Maison Roche de Bellene label is the superlative source of attractive, well-priced Burgundy wines. Nicolas chose the name ‘Bellene' in honour of the ancient Roman name for Beaune.Read less

Region
Corton
The Grands Crus of Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay are shared between Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix Serrigny and Pernand Vergelesses. The vines for both are planted on the hillsides underneath the plateau of Corton's woodland forest. The majorityof Pinot Noir is planted in the southern and eastern sector where the soil is naturally rich with red iron clay giving additional body and power. Overall, the wines from these areas tend to be fruit forward and fleshy with a balance of round edges and fine concentration.
