Goedhuis, December 2016
Etienne’s parcel lies in the lower part of the Clos de Vougeot where cooler conditions and soil humidity benefitted the vines during the heat of the summer. Stunning summer berry fruit aromas and flavours, this balances a delicious volume with richly intense dark liquorice notes. A classical Clos de Vougeot.

Neal Martin, December 2016,
Score: 95-97The 2015 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a detailed, precise bouquet, very pure with ripe dark cherries, kirsch, orange sorbet and subtle graphite aromas. It is one of the classiest that you will come across from this ancient vineyard this year. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannin that feel a little fuller and suppler than the premier cru Vosne-Romanées. Grippy in the mouth with an effervescent finish, this is a long-term Clos de Vougeot that will age effortlessly over 20-30 years. Drink 2020 - 2050

Burghound, January 2017,
Score: 92-95Moderate wood sets off the ripe and fresh if restrained aromas of soft earth and spicy dark currant, humus and forest floor scented-nose. There is exceptionally good volume and richness to the palate coating and velvet-textured big-bodied flavors that display outstanding power, punch and intensity on the rustic and ever-so-slightly warm finish. This is built-to-age and is going to need it. Drink 2030+

Domaine Etienne Grivot (formerly Jean Grivot)

One of the most famous names in Vosne Romanée, Domaine Grivot dates back to the nineteenth century. Over the years and marriages, the domaine grew to include vineyards in notable appellations such as Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Richebourg. Etienne, the fifth generation of the family to run the estate, returned to Burgundy from work experience in California in the 1980s. He eventually took over from his father completely in 1990. Over time and through experience, Etienne has created his own style of wine, which many tasters consider to be growing in elegance. The wines remain powerful and rich, true vins de garde, which usually need several years of cellaring to soften and develop. Those patient enough to wait know that the wines of Etienne Grivot are exceptional. In 2012 his children Mathilde and Hubert joined him at the family domaine, and the three share a united vision. It is a harmonious and collaborative family team. They eschew the trend for analysing every drop of juice, and pay much more attention to the vegetative cycle of their vines. The year’s weather conditions will dictate how the team handles the grapes in the cellar far more than the complex chemical analyses which comes back from the lab.
