Tasting Notes

  • BURG

    Burghound, January 2018,
    Score: 94

Moderate wood frames very ripe liqueur-like aromas of plum, cassis, floral and ample spice and earth nuances. There is excellent richness to the opulent yet relatively refined big-bodied flavors that exhibit a subtle minerality on the powerful, mouth coating and driving finish that possesses outstanding complexity and persistence. There is a hint of warmth but overall this is quite well-balanced and the length is remarkable. My sense is that while this will age effortlessly for decades, it should not be particularly difficult young. 94/100. Date 2035+

Producer

Domaine de Clos de Tart

Clos de Tarte is a wholly owned vineyard in Morey St Dénis in Burgundy which produces fine, silky red wine. It was originally founded by Cistercian sisters from Notre Dame de Genlis in 1250.

Region

Côte de Nuits-Villages

This communal appellation covers the vineyards of Fixin, Brochon, Premeaux, Comblanchien, and Corgoloin. Spread along the length of the Cotes de Nuits the wines of the different communes are, unsurprisingly, varied, reflecting a range of different exposures and nuances of soild type. The vast majority of production is red, with just a smattering of Chardonnay grown. The reds can offer very good value from the better producers.
