  • Goedhuis, December 2016

The name derives from the old huts which were once situated on this parcel below Bonnes Mares. A deliciously rewarding and generous wine, with fabulous flavours of summer pudding and subtle spice. This is a mouth-coating style with great depth and sweet vigour. Excellent.

  • Neal Martin, April 2017, Score: 91-93

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes has a clean and pure bouquet with black cherry and boysenberry aromas, plenty of wet limestone scents and pressed violets. It is only with aeration that it presents a Chambolle persona. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, crisp acidity and a pointed, quite floral finish that leaves the mouth tingling. The Sérafin family are part of the establishment in Gevrey Chambertin. From when he took over from his father in the 1960 until his recent retirement, if you ever want to get in touch with Christian, you either had to call him as the rooster crowed in the morning or long after the sun had set. The rest of the time, he was working out in the vines or deep in his cellars. The domaine is now run by cousins Frédérique and Karine who are continuing the family tradition of making bold and structured wines. Their Pinots benefit from a period of bottle age and typically express fine tertiary characteristics. They do not fine or filter their wines, and only rack when necessary. Not shy of new oak, they use up to 50% on their straight Bourgogne and often 100% on the rest of their cuvées depending on the concentration. The wines tend to be ample and fleshy, and the richest ones need some cellaring in order to better integrate the spicy, cedarwood flavours.Read less

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
