Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, April 2016,
Score: 90-92Striking dark berry aromas, this has bright black fruit flavours, with a very rounded tannic structure. It is not overly powerful, but extremely well balanced and a very good example of this excellent vineyard’s wines.
-
Neal Martin, July 2019,
Score: 86The 2015 Chasse-Spleen is not a successful wine for the vintage. It begins well, with a tobacco-infused nose that offers plenty of black fruit, but the structured palate feels rather aggressive, stocky and slightly green toward the finish. This Moulis property has made some impressive wines in recent years, but the 2015 is not one of them. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

Antonio Galloni, April 2016,
Score: 88-89The 2015 Chasse-Spleen is an attractive, mid-weight Moulis that will drink well upon release. Understated and supple, yet also persistent on the palate, the 2015 speaks to balance above all else. Sweet red cherry, mint, licorice and wild flowers add aromatic intrigue on the inviting, nicely layered finish. Tasted three times.

Robert Parker, Feb 2018,
Score: 82/100The 2015 Chasse-Spleen is medium garnet-purple in color with red currants, cassis and forest floor on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied and firm with tar notes, finishing a bit lean and green. Lisa Perrotti Brown Drink dates 2018-2023 Score 82/100
-
James Suckling, April 2016,
Score: 94-95This is a very solid 2015 with lots of tannin and fruit at the finish. Full body. Long finish. Impressive. One of the best ever from here.
-
Matthew Jukes, April 2016,
Score: 17+The oak leads the way but this quickly changes into fruit and then the quite powerful palate takes over in true Chas¬se-Spleen style. Good, confident, swaggering and rewarding, this is exactly what you would expect from this property and it delivers a punch of fruit nicely in the absence of any airs and graces.
-
Jancis Robinson, April 2016,
Score: 16+Mid crimson. Not much on the nose at this point. Pretty stodgy tannins and bone dry. Seems quite heavily extracted. Drink 2024-2032
-
Wine Spectator, April 2016,
Score: 89-92Enticing, with a tangy iron note to the fresh red currant and bitter cherry fruit flavors, followed by a lingering sanguine edge on the pleasantly dusty finish

Château Chasse-Spleen

For many years Château Chasse-Spleen was undervalued. Though its official classification is Cru Bourgeois, many specialists believe that Chasse-Spleen equals a third or fourth growth in quality.
Region
Moulis
Moulis is an appellation in the south of the Haut-Médoc in Bordeaux. There are many different soil types, including clay, gravel and limestone, which results in a variety of wine styles. Its wines offer good value for money and are generally well structured, often with some of the perfume of Margaux to the east.
