Goedhuis, December 2016
Full and concentrated, with striking aromas of liquorice, dark chocolate and blackcurrants. Richly mouth-coating, with volume and juicy sweetness. The firm ripe tannins are almost disguised by the glorious breadth of fruit. This will give an extraordinary amount of pleasure and is distinctly grand cru.
Neal Martin, December 2016,
The 2015 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru includes 40% whole bunch this year and that lends complexity on the nose with brambly black fruit, briary and touches of undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with a structured, slightly tough opening. It is very structured with firm tannin, very saline in the mouth with a muscular finish that will soften with requisite bottle age. It is a fine Bonnes-Mares, but I know it can be even better. Burghound, January 2017,
Once again reduction largely dominates the nose though discreet floral nuances are perceptible. There is excellent size, weight and concentration to the overtly powerful big-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract that helps to buffer the considerable tannic spine shaping the youthfully austere, serious and built-to-age finale. In a word, impressive. (92-95)/2032+
Domaine Drouhin Laroze
This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: Philippe Drouhin is ably assisted by son and daughter Nicolas and Caroline. First established in 1850, the domaine has major holdings in Gevrey Chambertin, as well as an impressive array of the Côte de Nuits’s grands crus, stretching from Gevrey down through Chambolle Musginy and into Vougeot. Recent investment at the domaine’s barrel hall will continue to drive quality at Drouhin Laroze. Their style falls somewhere between a modernist and a traditionalist. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.
Perched between Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny in the heart of the Cotes de Nuits this Grand Cru appellation can balance the best characteristics of both. Bonnes Mares wines combine fragrance and femininity with body and power. A seductive combination indeed.
