Wine Advocate, April 2018,
The 2015 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru from Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is an excellent example, opening in the glass with a youthful bouquet of blackberry, wild blueberries, Griotte cherry, lilac, peony and some very incipient notes of forest floor. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and multidimensional, with bright acids, a deep core and a powerful chassis of fine-grained tannins. This Bonnes Mares' structural authority will require a decade or more to mellow, but at maturity this should rank as one of the greatest renditions from de Vogüé in recent years. Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé
This domaine can trace its history back over 500 years. It has been in the hands of the same family which is now in its 20th generation.George's grand-daughters Clare de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette are the family members presently involved.Currently the wine is overseen by Francois Millet as winemaker and Eric Bourgogne as chef de vignes. The vineyards spread to 12.5 hectares. They, amazingly, adapt their techniques depending on the conditions of the particular vintage, and rather disparage those who have a single "best" technique every year. This, hopefully, allows a purer expression of the raw material and vintage.
Perched between Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny in the heart of the Cotes de Nuits this Grand Cru appellation can balance the best characteristics of both. Bonnes Mares wines combine fragrance and femininity with body and power. A seductive combination indeed.
