Antonio Galloni, February 2020,
The 2015 Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo comes across as quite powerful and dense today. A few months ago it was more refined, but today I get the impression of a wine that is growing in bottle. As always, the Rio Sordo is a Barbaresco of textural suaveness and early appeal, relative to the more structured wines in this range. Spice, new leather, tobacco and cedar meld into the supple, resonant finish. 2022 - 2035
Produttori di Barbaresco
Since 1958, the Produttori has been the reference point for classic, beautifully made, exemplary Barbaresco. It is not only one of the best and most consistent Barbaresco producers, but also one of the best cooperative cellars in Italy, offering unbeatable quality-price ratio.
Situated due northeast of Barolo, Barbaresco's soils are predominantly calcareous marls similar tothe vineyards of La Morra. Barbarescos tend to be lighter and more delicate in style with tannins that are often more textured than its Barolo counterparts. Slightly lower in altitude than Barolo, its Nebbiolo tends to ripen earlier creating some possible vintage variations between the two neighbouring areas. The wines are also released a year earlier.
