  • Goedhuis, December 2015

Striking Morello cherry nose, this bold and powerfully structured wine is full and concentrated. The striking intensity closes the wine down a little on the finish, but there is no shortage of potential.

  • Neal Martin, December 2015, Score: 89-91

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Suchots has a fragrant nose of blackberry and boysenberry fruit with a potent cold stone scent flowing underneath. I like the reserve here. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannin on the entry, but harmonious and cohesive with a linear, delineated finish that should gain more flesh by the time it is bottle. At the moment, there is plenty of freshness and tension, if not the weight that I am sure the 2015 will eventually bestow. Drink 2018-2035

  • Burghound, January 2017, Score: 91

This is also quite floral but even spicier with its cool nose of plum, red cherry and sandalwood. The delicious middle weight flavors possess a wonderfully seductive and almost delicate mouth feel and this sense of refinement also characterizes the solidly complex, persistent and dusty finale. This tightly coiled effort is exceptionally pretty and very Vosne in style. Outstanding. 91/2022+

Producer

Domaine de l'Arlot

Domaine de l'Arlot was created in 1987 when AXA Millésimes purchased the property in Prémeaux, just south of Nuits St Georges. Its history as a domaine, however, stretches back far into the Burgundian annals passing through the Vienot and Belin dynasties before AXA’s acquisition. The domaine’s recent history has been shaped by the influence of Jean-Pierre de Smet who ran the domaine for almost two decades before Christian Seely took over direction. In 2014 Christian installed Géraldine Godot as technical manager and winemaker. A native Burgundian, she is a qualified microbiologist and oenologist, and looks set for a bright future at this Côte de Nuits estate. The domaine favours whole bunch fermentation, seeking to produce wines with refinement and finesse. (Not to be confused with Domaine Arlaud in Morey St Denis.)

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
