Tasting Notes

Goedhuis, December 2015
Latricières Chambertin sits next door to Le Chambertin, but has slightly richer and deeper soil which explains its more flamboyant richness when young. Always a Grand Cru that one can drink a little earlier, yet one that maintains very good depth and drive. This will age extremely well.

Neal Martin, December 2015,
Score: 92-94The 2014 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has an attractive nose: more vibrant and nuanced than the Chapelle-Chambertin with more mineralité filtering through those lifted black and red fruit. The palate is crisp and tensile with fine tannin, juicy black fruit with just a touch of citrus lemon towards the finish. Yes, there is a bit of new oak to be assimilated (60%) but once it does, this will be a very fine Latricières that exudes class and a nascent sense of energy. Drink 2018-2032

Burghound, January 2016,
Score: 90-92Fresh and relatively bright red berry fruit aromas laced with earth and wet stone nuances are trimmed in a noticeable if not aggressive toastiness. There is good underlying tension to the well-detailed and intense medium-bodied flavors that possess good punch on the overtly mineral-driven finale that exhibits slightly better overall depth and length and marginally firmer tannins. Domaine Drouhin Laroze

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: Philippe Drouhin is ably assisted by son and daughter Nicolas and Caroline. First established in 1850, the domaine has major holdings in Gevrey Chambertin, as well as an impressive array of the Côte de Nuits’s grands crus, stretching from Gevrey down through Chambolle Musginy and into Vougeot. Recent investment at the domaine’s barrel hall will continue to drive quality at Drouhin Laroze. Their style falls somewhere between a modernist and a traditionalist. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.
Region
Latricières-Chambertin
Latricières-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the far south of Gevrey-Chambertin next to the Morey-St-Denis border. The vineyard lies on white oolite soils, sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Compared to other Grand Cru Gevrey, Latricières-Chambertin is not ultra-powerful and seems to exude a sublime lacy quality.
