Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, May 2016

Aromas of autumnal leaves and hedgerow fruits. In the palate it has small dark berry flavours, with quite an intense tannic mouthfeel. A really meaty wine, designed for longer aging and has huge potential.

  • NM

    Neal Martin, December 2015,
    Score: 93-95

The 2014 Griotte Chambertin Grand Cru is certainly not as immediate as that temptress, the 2014 Charmes-Chambertin. This insists upon more coaxing from the glass, more swirling to eke out those attractive scents of blackberry, raspberry preserve and rose petals, all very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, ripe, sappy red berry fruit. There is pleasant tang of sour cherry here, even a hint of licorice on the finish that has more density than the Charmes-Chambertin, if not quite the nascent "Charmes." Give it 4-6 years in bottle and then I think you might have a serious Griotte on your hands. Drink 2018-2035

  • BURG

    Burghound, January 2016

The cool, pure and airy nose is consists of red currant, earth and spice nuances that display a top note of rose petal. There is terrific intensity to the sleek and mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that possess fine size, weight and focused power on the saline finish where a touch of bitter cherry appears. Drink 2026+

Domaine Ponsot

Domaine Ponsot is an atypical but outstanding domaine in Morey St Denis. Their combination of late picking, destemming, and ageing in old oak barrels achieve the domaine’s distinctive style of long lived wines. Laurent Ponsot left the domaine in 2017, and the estate is now run by his sister, Rose Marie Ponsot. Alexandre Abel has joined the team as régisseur, and together they continue to uphold these three principles of the estate. Furthermore, they are not afraid to experiment, and are always evolving the viticulture and winemaking style with small innovations.

Region

Griotte-Chambertin

Although the name Griotte-Chambertin comes from a word for a grill-pan inspired by the shape of the vineyard, locals and critics alike agree that there is an unmistakeable scent of cherries in this delectable wine. One of the nine Grand Cru vineyards to be found within Gevrey Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertins are wines of great power, complexity and longevity.
