Goedhuis, December 2015
More reserved and a heavier-structured style, this is the big brother to the more feminine Echézeaux. Lots of dark chocolate and gamey black fruits. Full and intense it finishes with huge levels of concentration.

Jancis Robinson, November 2015, Score: 17
Whole bunch. Bright crimson. Edgy bitter-cherry fruits. Edgy and racy and exciting. But not flattering. Demands that you like the green streak! Drink 2025-2040

Son of the family who used to own the illustrious Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, Nicolas Potel set up his négociant label Maison Roche de Bellene in 2008. A Bourguignon through and through, Nicolas’ unrivalled local network of thoroughly reliable grower-suppliers allows him to source fruit from the most sought-after parcels in the Côte. He also produces a selection of domaine wines (under Domaine de Bellene). The emphasis remains to this day on well-sited venerable vines and viticulture and the Maison Roche de Bellene label is the superlative source of attractive, well-priced Burgundy wines. Nicolas chose the name ‘Bellene' in honour of the ancient Roman name for Beaune.Read less

Region
Grands Echézeaux
One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Much more compact and homogenous than the neighbouring Echezeaux, the Grands Echézeaux vineyards are owned by around twenty producers - very modest in Burgundian terms. The most celebrated producers include Domaines de la Romanee Conti, d'Eugenie and Mongeard-Mugneret. These fine wines are richly complex yet balanced and have enormous ageing potential.
