  The higher location of this fine lieu dit comes through in the excellent 2014. This is a wine full of life and energy, with its lively currant fruit flavours, tightly knit tannins and subtle power at the end. Comparable to many 1ers Crus in the village.

  The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin les Evocelles was nearly totally millerandage-affected, and as a consequence it was the ripest picking at 12.6 degrees potential. It offers strawberry pastilles and blackcurrant on the nose, a hint of wild heather. This is very intriguing. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent red berry fruit, orange zest and minerals, crisp and taut with good delineation and intensity on the finish. This is excellent -- one of the best from Louis Boillot this year. Drink 2018-2032

  Here the nose is at once more complex and more elegant with excellent density to the purple fruit and floral scents. There is fine concentration to the stony, intense and well-delineated middle weight flavors that are shaped by relatively fine tannins on the powerful, austere and very serious finish. This is definitely going to need a few years of bottle age first but should be outstanding in time. Recommended. Drink 2024+

  Lively focus of sweet fruit on the nose and palate. A keen line, energetic and ripe and rich too. The tannins are trim and the it is athletic [sic]. There is depth and also notable energy on the finish. Very good indeed and really out performs its village appellation status.

Domaine Louis Boillot

Louis is the seventh generation of vignerons in Burgundy from a family who is mostly known for their Côte de Beaune wines such as Pommard and Volnay however, several Côte de Nuits appellations including Gevrey Chambertin were added to the repertoire in 1978. Many of these are parcels of extremely old vines, and the wines have a natural concentration and silky persistence. Today Louis vinifies and ages his wines in Chambolle Musigny in the same cellar as his other half, Ghislaine Barthod. In fact, it has been said that his influences have helped create the celestial beauties that have risen from her vineyards. Both are ably assisted by their son, Clément. He has been instrumental in Louis Boillot’s recent purchase of vineyards in Beaujolais, Moulin à Vent, where these skilled Burgundians bring their expertise to the Gamay grape.
