Tasting Notes

  • BURG

    Burghound, January 2017,
    Score: 93

A pronounced floral character is quite evident on the strikingly fresh nose of black cherry aromas that are amply cut with a variety of spice, tea and discreet earth notes. The moderately broad-shouldered and velvet-textured flavors possess excellent precision on the mouth coating, firm and entirely serious finish that displays outstanding length. This isn't particularly elegant but there is impressive complexity. Drink 2025+

  • ST

    Stephen Tanzer, November 2015,
    Score: 92-94

(60% vendange entier; 80% new oak; according to Pascal Lachaux, 90% of the vines here run north-south): Bright, deep red. Wonderfully elegant, expressive nose combines redcurrant, raspberry, iron, tobacco and underbrush complemented by sweet smoky oak. Suave and fine-grained, with the red fruit flavors lifted by a peppery topnote. This very silky, smooth wine finishes with terrific rising length and solid tannic grip. A lovely showing today: seems clearly better than the Clos-Vougeot in 2014. These iron-rich soils generally yield relatively tender wines in a Chambolle style, noted Charles Lachaux.

Echézeaux

One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Relatively large and consequently diverse for a Grand Cru, the better Echézeaux wines undoubtedly deserve this status. As always in Burgundy vineyard location and grower is critical.
