Goedhuis, December 2015
Charmes Chambertin is a beautifully giving Grand Cru. With sweet spiced berry fruits, it is harmonious with tremendous volume. More delicate than some of its grander neighbours, it is always hugely rewarding. This will develop into a very complex wine in a few years’ time.

Burghound, January 2016,
Score: 91-94While hardly invisible the wood treatment is a bit more subtle here and easily allows the complex array of violet, plum, dark currant, earth and abundant sauvage nuances to shine. There is excellent mid-palate concentration to the powerful, generously proportioned and palate coating flavors that possess excellent volume on the powerful and beautifully long finale. This is a robust version of the appellation and quite firmly structured to I would strongly recommend allowing this at least 8 to 10 years of cellar time first. Drink 2029+

Domaine Geantet-Pansiot

Created in 1955 by Edmond Geantet, this popular domaine has been run by his friendly and energetic son Vincent since 1989. Now joined by his son and daughter, Fabien and Emilie, the Geantets have built up this domaine into one of the most substantial estates in the Côte de Nuits, with 22 hectares of vines across Gevrey Chambertin and beyond. Their new winery at the edge of the village may not be one of the region’s architectural high points, but it has given them the vital space to vinify at ease. Through a combination of old vines (plenty of centenaries in their vineyards), sumptuous fruit concentration and generous new oak they make a hedonistic style of Burgundy. With a generous 10 day cold maceration, the colours are deep and the fruit aromas dark and ripe.
Region
Charmes-Chambertin
Charmes-Chambertin is one of the nine Grand Crus vineyards within the Gevrey Chambertin area. On gentle slopes, sheltered from the elements by woods to the north, gravelly soil forces the vines to work hard. Relatively large for a Grand Cru appellation, it is hard to generalise about the wines. Often intensely perfumed and seductive, Charmes-Chambertin can be approachable earlier than its Grand Crus neighbours.
