Burghound, January 2017,
A discreet application of wood doesn't detract from the intensely floral and notably elegant red berry fruit and earth-inflected aromas. There is really lovely richness and volume to the caressing medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the balanced, complex and wonderfully persistent finale. This too is absolutely lovely.
Stephen Tanzer, December 2016,
Deep ruby-red Musky aromas of black cherry, violet, licorice and bitter chocolate Powerful, densely packed and penetrating, showing less early sweetness than the Lavaux-Saint-Jacques but coming across as remarkably thick and full for a 2014 A bit oaky in the early going but one can already appreciate this wine's grand cru depth Finishes with big, dusty, even tannins and terrific chewy persistence This wine boasts lovely balance but will nonetheless require extended aging. Drink 2028-2041
Jancis Robinson, November 2015,
Pretty heady and rich. Sweet start and very juicy. Easy to like! Lots of framework underneath. Vivacious. Kicking up its petticoats. Firm but not dry finish. Drink 2019-2033
Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py
Charmes-Chambertin is one of the nine Grand Crus vineyards within the Gevrey Chambertin area. On gentle slopes, sheltered from the elements by woods to the north, gravelly soil forces the vines to work hard. Relatively large for a Grand Cru appellation, it is hard to generalise about the wines. Often intensely perfumed and seductive, Charmes-Chambertin can be approachable earlier than its Grand Crus neighbours.
