Stephen Tanzer, March 2017, Score: 93+
Bright, full red. Captivating perfumed scents of wild strawberry, raspberry, white flowers, spices and white pepper, with darker notes of cherry and menthol emerging with aeration. In a distinctly juicy, minerally, cool style compared to the broader 2015, but with terrific intensity to its youthfully imploded red fruit flavors. Powerful crushed rock and saline mineral flavors give this wine's finish outstanding energy and lift. Already compellingly floral and perfumed, this wine will nonetheless require patience owing to its substantial dusty tannins. 2023-2034

Most of the vines are of a good age (13 of the 18 bottlings are 45+yrs old "Vieilles Vignes".) As a firm believer in noninterventionist winemaking, Christophe uses no chemical fertilisers, employs a green harvest to bear only six to seven bunches per vine, and both harvests and sorts by hand. Each wine receives 30%-60% new oak (depending on its cru status), ages for 14-18 months and is bottled without fining or filtration.Read less

Region
Chapelle Chambertin
One of the nine Grand Crus vineyards within the Gevrey Chambertin area. Chapelle-Chambertin's vineyards are on gentle slopes, sheltered from the elements by woods to the north. The thin rocky soil forces the vines to work hard. The exceptional wines produced in Chapelle-Chambertin are complex, powerful and incredibly long-lasting.
